Aging is always a concern to many of my clients that I see. So let’s start here. Who doesn’t want to be young forever? Believe it or not there are ways to achieve that beautiful, glowing, dewy, fresh, plump skin that we all dream about. Let’s be realistic, not everyone can afford to go out and spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on Botox, or to go under the knife. I’m going to give you lots of tips and tricks on how you can stay looking young and radiant simply and affordably. Three of the most important things to do when it comes to age prevention with the skin are to exfoliate and hydrate! As we age our collagen production slows down and we start to notice all those fine lines, dullness and sometimes even lifeless looking. By exfoliating you get rid of all that dead and dry build up of dead skin cells that lie on the surface. Removing this dullness allows the skin to breathe. Exfoliating is extremely important for youthful, fresh skin. But, at the same time, we want to make sure you are doing so properly and safely. If you are exfoliating to often you can actually be working against yourself. Your skin can appear to become more dry or even oily. It is a good idea to be exfoliating once to twice a week depending on how often you feel you may need to. If your unsure how often you should be doing this, it is a good idea to have a consultation or facial with your local qualified Esthetican. They can then make the proper suggestions for your skins needs. Another important note about exfoliating; When you exfoliate your products are going to work better and you will more than likely see the results you have been waiting for.
Hydration is a HUGE part of young, youthful looking skin. Once you have exfoliated your skin you want to be sure you are moisturizing. Now I know what your thinking. “My skin is already super oily. I don’t want to create more oil and look like a grease monkey.” Trust me on this one. There is a moisturizer, serum or gel based moisturizer out there for you! If you are depriving your skin of the moisture or oil that it needs, then it is probably going to try to produce what you are lacking. If you are someone who doesn’t like the feel of a heavy moisturizer at night, then try something a little lighter. A lot of serums out there feel like water and soak into the skin right away. This has worked great for oily skin clients in my experience. Think of it this way; if your skin cells are dry and dehydrated like a raisin, you want to feed it lots of water and hydration so it can reach its full potential and be juicy and plump like a grape.
Now you have some insight to proper and quality skin care. If you are still unsure, I would be happy to assess your skin and recommend the proper regime and services to help you reach your skin care goals.
